What exactly is File "Heur.AdvML.B"? My anti virus quarantines this file every time I start Vanity Pack even after I restore and exclude it from future scans. I used to only grab it randomly but now it's every time I start VP. I go through this at least 3 times to get VP to run right. If I don't restore this file the game doesn't run fully in VP and the map is screwed up. Any known fix? Norton says it's: " Category: Virus A file detected with the SAPE technology, that has the category of Virus, is a Trojan and is deemed by Symantec to pose a security threat. Symantec will detect and block these files from accessing the computer. These files are considered malicious and may have the potential to cause harm to a system in the form of destruction, disclosure, data modification, and/or Denial of Service (DoS). Category: Adware A file detected with the SAPE technology, that has the category of Adware, is considered a security risk. These include programs that facilitate delivery for advertising content to the user and in some cases gather information from the user's computer, including information related to Internet browser usage or other computer habits. Category: Security Risk or Misleading Application A file detected with the SAPE technology, that has the category of Security Risk or Misleading Application, is a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application). SAPE PUA detects programs that users may wish to be made aware of. These programs include applications that have an impact on security, privacy, resource consumption, or are associated with other security risks. These programs can show a pattern of installation without user permission or notice on a system or be deemed to be separate and different from the application installed."

It's a false positive, whatever it is. If you know which file it's quarantining, do tell. Probably metasm.

I can tell you Heur=Heuristic analysis, which, in layman's terms, means it's detected as a potential threat based on its contents/behaviour, rather than because it's in the database as a known threat.

This is the file Heur.AdvML.B. to the letter that's the file. Search your VP and temp remove it then run VP as you normally do and watch what happens. For me I still get the cosmetics and cars but the map is all screwed up and it is running out of base game not VP. I know this because base game shows a white screen with back to game button lower right and VP never shows that screen when working right.

No, it's not the file. Heur.AdvML.B is a Norton-specific designation for the method it used to detect the file. They have it documented on their site: https://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2016-051811-2400-99

It should say what the file actually is somewhere in Norton. Even if it doesn't, there should be an option to exclude the Vanity Pack folder from all scans, that should fix the issue.

Thanks burningrubber0, I'll see if I can get the name figured out and yea it gives the exclude option but still grabs it. In the mean time I'll just have to deal with it to play...
